Annemarie Jacir | Palestine, UK, France, Denmark, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan | 2025 | 120m English, Arabic with English subtitles In 1936, as the British Empire tightens its grip on Palestine, Yusuf is caught between his village home and his work in Jerusalem. Amidst an anti-colonial revolt, and Jewish refugees fleeing persecution from Europe, all sides converge in a decisive moment for the entire region in this powerful historical drama. Director Annemarie Jacir directed the first feature film shot by a Palestinian woman director ( Salt of the Sea ). Three of her feature films have gone on to represent Palestine at the Academy Awards. The only feature film to shoot in Palestine in the last two years, Palestine 36 began pre-production in January 2023 with rebuilding an entire village, planting fields of obsolete crops, creating British war vehicles and weapons in an ambitious recreation of the past. Utilizing restored archival footage to ground the story, Palestine 36 is a moving look back that directly connects to the present day. “’Palestine 36′ presents a complex, underseen history with the sweep of an old-school epic.” – Roger Abele, Los Angeles Times “Its strength lies in the creation of characters who… seem genuinely conflicted and caught off guard by the brutal interventions of history.” – Justin Chang, The New Yorker “Like all successful recreations of the past on screen, it gives history a physical form in the faces and bodies of people who can illustrate the impact of what occurred on a human level.” – Carlos Aguilar, RogerEbert.com Winner: Audience Award for Best International Fiction – Sao Paulo International Film Festival, 2025 Winner: Tokyo Grand Prix – Tokyo International Film Festival, 2025 Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available) Thursday, April 30, 6:30 PM tickets Friday, May 15, 6:30 PM tickets Sunday, May 17. 8:00 PM tickets Tagged coming soon
